Atocha Station

Atocha Station is one of the largest and busiest railway stations in Europe. It is a railway complex located near the Plaza del Emperador Carlos V, in Madrid, Spain. It serves as a railway junction, making it the busiest station in the country.

The station was built between 1985 and 1992, behind the original 1892 Atocha Station, for the arrival of the Madrid-Seville high-speed railway line. The operation, headed by the architect Rafael Moneo, consisted in replacing the Atocha Station with two stations, Atocha Cercanías and Puerta de Atocha, converting the original station into the vestibule giving access to the two new stations.
